Philip Gawthorne

Philip Gawthorne is a British writer/producer for film and TV, based in Los Angeles. He wrote the BAFTA-nominated British film MODERN LIFE IS RUBBISH for Universal, and worked on the $50 million-budgeted Fox sci-fi/horror movie UNDERWATER, starring Kristen Stewart. He also features on the UNDERWATER Blu-ray commentary, alongside his regular collaborator, acclaimed filmmaker William Eubank. Philip started his career as a playwright and theatre practitioner. He trained at the Royal Court Theatre and his plays have been performed throughout London and New York. He is a graduate of the elite BBC Writers Academy and wrote eight episodes of prime time television drama for the BBC, before moving to LA after selling an original TV pilot to Starz. Since that time he has worked primarily in the studio system, for the likes of Warner Bros, Universal, Fox, Disney, Lionsgate, Sony, STX and most recently Netflix, on both his own original projects and as a writer for hire, often working closely with A-list filmmakers, producers, content creators and authors, such as Vin Diesel, Chris Morgan, Brad Peyton, Marc Webb, Clint Hill, Mark Millar and James Sallis. Philip is also the creator and co-host of the film podcast DIE HARD ON A BLANK, produced by Sugar23. The podcast explores the influence of Die Hard on action cinema and is available on all platforms.
