Bio
Alicia Herder is a writer-director, independent producer, and podcaster. Born in the Midwest, Alicia made a career of fighting past the limits of addiction, poverty, and familial discord, channeling her experiences into films that address these issues head on. Alicia’s work explores the dark side of human nature and the ongoing journey to release oneself of ingrained trauma. Her short films, "Good Girl" and "Diego on my Mind," have been applauded for the films’ artistry and prevalence in regional film festival success. "Diego on my Mind" explores the relationship between a high school girl and her absent father. Where "Diego on my Mind" delves into a familial loss, "Good Girl" navigates the pain of isolation and of being Othered in her community. "Good Girl" received the James Bridges Production Award, a $20,000 production grant. "Diego on my Mind" is currently streaming on Amazon Prime. Alicia has an M.F.A. in Film Directing from UCLA, and was the recipient of the Army Archerd Award and Motion Picture Association of America Award. Alicia was a Finalist in Directing at the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival in 2014. In her producing work, Alicia champions other women to tell their stories. Alicia produced Patricia Vidal Delgado’s feature film, "La Leyenda Negra," which was an Official Selection at the Sundance Film Festival in 2020. In 2021, "La Leyenda Negra" was nominated for a Film Independent John Cassavetes Spirit Award and a GLAAD Media Award for Outstanding TV Movie. She is currently producing the indie horror film, "Flesh and Blood" starring Broadway sensation, Bianca Marroquín. Alicia also hosts the comedy podcast, WITCH, YES! that is currently streaming in 58 countries. Alicia truly believes that by lifting up the voices of all women, we will create more complex and heartfelt stories, initiate a dialogue for change, and enact that change into the world.
