Gabriela Calvache

Calvache’s fiction debut feature LA MALA NOCHE premiered at SXSW (2019). After touring several festivals, it garnered fifteen nominations and twelve awards, including Best International Film at the NY Latino Film Festival HBO and Best Emerging Director Mention at the Minneapolis Saint Paul International Film Festival. This film represented Ecuador at the Oscar, Goya, Ariel and Platinum 2020 awards. During development this film script was selected at the Latin America - Europe Co-Production Market of San Sebastian Film Festival where it got the Cannes Attendance Support grant from the Marche du Film. Film director and screenwriter born in Ambato, a small city in the Ecuadorian Andes. Her work focuses on stories of characters inspired by social, ethnic, or cultural minorities. In 2019, Universal Studios added Calvache to its Directors Initiative.
