Melanie Hughes

Growing up in a chaotic, adventurous family that often swapped Atlanta for sailboats, Melanie Hughes turned to writing for reflective expression when stability was in question. In exploring storytelling through photography and a Creative Writing degree, she found that her unpredictable yet vibrant life experience has cultivated an appreciation for intimate moments, deep life ponderings, and authentically engaging with the rich tapestry of human emotion. In 2022 she graduated with a Master’s degree in Film - Screenwriting from Boston University where she taught a screenwriting workshop, worked as a script consultant, and simultaneously interned at both Big Beach and Catchlight Studios in Los Angeles. Now with a dynamic body of work including two drama features, a sitcom pilot, and a period crime pilot that was a Quarterfinalist in The Script Lab’s 2022 Screenplay Contest, her writing often centers around complex female characters, the complications of becoming an adult, and the beauty in the raw mess of life.
