Bio
Marlon Royal Reid was probably one of the youngest filmmakers in Detroit, Michigan growing up. At age 10, he mastered the art of production work by annoying a group of older teenagers with an 8mm camera into allowing him to become part of their film crew and he’s been working in the entertainment industry ever since. After graduating from Morgan State University, Marlon teamed up with childhood friend and fellow filmmaker, Andre Seewood to create a series of short films, "Wasteland", "Flowers & Trees", and "The Visit", a 17-minute drama he wrote, produced and directed about a broken relationship between an incarcerated father and his college-bound son who comes to visit. The project went on to win third place in the AFI / Sony Visions Home Video Competition. Marlon later attended New York Film Academy’s four-week intensive filmmaking workshop in Manhattan, New York. The program allows you to make three short films in four weeks. Being someone who takes advantage of an opportunity, he wrote and directed four. One of those short films, "The Last Condom", played in multiple film festivals across the country, won the People’s Choice Award at the Motor City International Film Festival in Detroit, Michigan, and was selected to be showcased in the Russell Simmons Def Filmmakers Showcase He was published in the national magazine, A & U (American Aids) for his short film "Night" which tackles the controversial subject of men on the down-low and the spread of HIV in the black community. Currently residing in Los Angeles, Marlon has worked as a researcher for VH1’s "Behind the Music", a production assistant on award shows such as the Grammys, reality television shows "Bull Run", "Wedding Day", "The X Factor", and feature films, "Crossover" and "Four Brothers". His current short film, "REPEAT" is a psychological horror film that is currently in the film festival circuit with recent screenings at Raindance (New York), Dark Veins Horror Film Festival (Italy), Sacramento Horror Film Festival, Scream Queen Film Festival, Seattle Crypticon Horror Film Festival and winner of Best Horror short film award at the Niagara Falls Short International Film Festival with more film festival selections to come.
