Gesha-Marie Bland

Gesha-Marie Bland is a NYC-based screenwriter, Sundance Episodic and Feature Lab semi-finalist, Black List/Women in Film Episodic Lab fellow, and a contributor to The Black List Blog, and Vanity Fair. She attended Reed College and NYU’s Master’s Program in Cinema Studies, began her film career in Public Relations for the Chicago International Film Festival, and continued at Magic Lantern PR for clients such as Sony Pictures Classics and October Films. Gesha-Marie sold THE RIPPER, an Alexander McQueen-Issie Blow biopic, to the Cannes-winning production company Maven Pictures. An excerpt from her limited series pilot SELZNICK’S FOLLY ( a favorite of the Black List Table Reads Series) was featured in Vanity Fair. She also adapted the Best Fiction of 2018 favorite novel THE THIRD HOTEL by Laura van den Berg. Recently, Gesha-Marie hosted the Meet the Director Q&A webcast series for the Portland Film Festival and obtained Directing and Producing Certificates from Sundance Collab. A cinephile committed to independent voices and perspectives in film and tv, Gesha-Marie writes elevated, character-based, and female-driven period, literary adaptations, dramedies and thrillers about sexuality, interracial relationships, politics, class, artists, and mental illness from a nuanced perspective based upon a preference for underdogs and her world travels. (A native of Chicago and dual American-French citizen, she has at various times in her life called New York, Los Angeles and Paris home.) Most recently, Gesha-Marie was promoted to Senior Editor at Beauty News NYC and started a blog about the cultural/political fads that annoy her.
