Candace Egan

Candace Egan is a professor of Film and Media Arts at Fresno State and a screenwriter focused on female-forward stories. Her Journalism background began when she became the first female news videographer at a local TV station. Later she moved into educational media, then teaching. She’s had a long career as a non-fiction visual storyteller, exploring stories about a breadth of people such as the first Hmong women to go to college, a U.S. Poet Laureate, and competitive wheelchair tennis players. She writes female-driven stories about mature, authentic women who transform into vibrant, adventurous versions of themselves and learn that it’s never too late to explore new opportunities. Her accolades include: 2023 Stowe Fellowship winner, 2023 ScreenCraft TV Pilot semifinalist and 2023 & 2022 CineStory Feature Retreat quarterfinalist. Her off-road racing feature DESERT BELLES has received the following accolades: BEST SCREENPLAY FEATURE Switzerland Film Festival-February 2024, FEATURE WINNER Wiki Screenplay Contest-May 2023, FINALIST Mad Wife Productions Fellowship 2023, QUARTERFINALIST CineStory Feature Retreat and Fellowship 2023, QUARTERFINALIST ScreenCraft 2023 Action Adventure, OFFICIAL SELECTION Golden State Film Festival 2024, OFFICIAL SELECTION Toronto International Women Film Festival 2024, OFFICIAL SELECTION LA Independent Women Film Awards 2024, SELECTION Rocaberti Writers Retreat Scholarship 2023. Her comedy pilot “Second Set” about a grandmother becoming a freshman tennis student-athlete, based on Candace’s own experience, has won or placed in 16 contests including winning a fellowship at the Stowe Story Labs.
